Auguste Boucher DESNOYER (Paris 1779 - 1857) "La Vierge au Donataire dite de Foligno" Original etching and dotted manner signed and dated in the plate on the lower right 1810, from the famous painting by Raphael of Urbino, printed in Paris by Ramboz on behalf of the author himself who publishes it at his address on rue de Touraine. Beautiful copy of one of the first tests of the third state of four with the open letter, which, as reported by Beraldi, bears the author's cachet depicting two male heads, printed on fine laid paper bearing the filigree of the "Dovecote", with coupons margins beyond the imprint of the slab and in a generally perfect state of conservation. Commissioned by Sigismondo de Conti, secretary of Pope Julius II, the painting was placed on the main altar of the Basilica of Santa Maria in Aracoeli in Rome where the tomb of Sigismondo is located, later a grandson of the donor had it transferred to Foligno in the church of the Monastery of Sant'Anna where he remained until the Napoleonic requisitions. He returned to Rome as a result of the Treaty of Tolentino and was held in the Vatican Pinacoteca where he is currently admirable. Bibliography: LeBlanc "Manuel de l'Amateur d'Estampes" Paris 1856, vol.2 pag.117 n ° 11. Beraldi "Les Graveurs du XIX siecle" Paris 1886 vol 2 pag 203 n ° 4. For a comparison with the fourth and final state, see http://www.lombardiabeniculturali.it/stampe/schede/D0080-02598/ Measurements in mm: 680 x 455ca
